A New Record Deal
The band had recently wrapped up their 21-year partnership with Atlantic Records, the label who took them up following the massive success of their 2003 album "Transatlanticism". At the time, Death Cab for Cutie shared that major labels have been reaching out on-and-off for quite a while already, but it was only during the album's major success that they decided to turn to labels for a potential deal. Negotiating for plenty of creative freedom, authenticity matters most.
Releasing several records, including "Narrow Stairs", "Plans", "Thank You for Today", "Asphalt Meadows", and more during their time with Atlantic, it sure was a rockin' journey in their careers. Now, the band is moving forward as they signed a new deal with ANTI- Records for their next releases.
"We are thrilled to be joining the roster at ANTI- which includes some of our favorite artists, old friends and in many cases, both. We also can’t wait to begin this new chapter with the wonderful staff at ANTI- and share with you what we’ve been working on" — Ben Gibbard shared in an official release.
New music coming soon? While no official details are out yet, Gibbard spoke to NME in 2024 about taking their time in recording their anticipated 11th studio LP.
"The band has been writing intermittently, over the last couple of years," Gibbards shared about the band taking time off from touring. "We have asked our fans for a lot over the last two years. Speaking merely strategically, it is very much in our best interest to get the fuck out of people’s faces! We’re from an era where artists went away for a while, into the woodshed."
Two years later, 2026 marks an era of surprises. Here we are with a new record deal and summer trek coming up. Seems like fans are in for big surprises over the next few months.
